Along with the common Saab issues that the forum discusses, there are a couple of issues that are of particular relevance to Saab owners.
Saab 9-5 Saloon boot (trunk) wiring issue
Owners of Saab 9-5 Saloon (Sedan) models might like to check their vehicles in light of SGould's discovery on broken electrical wiring to the boot (trunk). Check yours and rectify it before it permanantly locks your boot (trunk) and causes other failures.

:: Saab 8-year engine warranty
Saab has experienced a large number of failures on the 4-cyl trionic 7 petrol engines used in the Saab 9-5 models and Saab 9-3 (2000-2002) models. The issue relates to the use of semi-synthetic oils which have resulted in sludging of the oil strainer and pick up culminating in a blockage and catastrophe for the engine. Saab has modified it's recommendation to the use of fully-synthetic motor oil, though anecdotal evidence suggests that this is not always being adhered to. Depending on your driving habits, you may also benefit from an interim oil change inbetween services.
This issue seems to be one that Saab in some markets is helpful with, but in others they are reluctant to admit the issue. Evidence from contributors to Saabscene shows a range of experiences.
If you have had an engine problem (Saab 9-3 (years 2000-2002) or Saab 9-5, each with 4-cyl petrol engines) or you have a strange whining sound eminating from your engine, then this thread is essential reading for you!
