Re: Wheel question in English
My biggest frustration shipping into Canada is the duty, tax and brokerage fees that get added on. Even orders from the USA are expensive (sometimes) and get delayed (sometimes) and the Canadian Customs is unpredictable (always).
I had a big order (5 boxes) from England for my Land Rover. Four boxes arrived quickly (after paying fees), the fifth was 'on hold' in Customs for one month, then got shipped back to England and was then re-shipped and finally delivered. The only bonus to box #5 was there was no duty or taxes on that one.
My problem right now is that I've got the wheels (look nice - will post a pic 2morrow) and I want them installed RIGHT NOW! I'll need patience waiting for the bolts and hardware from sonnett003/turbopilot.
We'll see what else I can do in the garage to keep me busy.

Lekker stuk
'Lekker stuk'....I learned that phrase from my cousin Peter (from Bergen op Zoom) when I was 14. He also told me another in English - nitchen in the kitchen - I translated that much later.
However, I got the bolts and reamer from Sonnett003 and prepared the rims. I still have the old (195/60-15) tires on them but wanted to see how they looked and fit... AND IT LOOKS GREAT!

The tires are completely worn so they must be changed so I'll have a chance to re-paint the wheels too. I don't want to take them off right now though.

Re: Wheel question in English
Thanks, FD.
I was happy to have the original wheels but THIS is the look I like.

Re: Wheel question in English
The look is now completed;

I am surprised how much better this car looks with the Ronals. I have installed 195/65/15 Falken tires (actually a bit wider than the 195/60 Michelins that were on the rims) and they do not contact the body or suspension - millimeters to spare.
Ik ben tevreden.
sonnett003 - I still owe you Euros

Beautiful condition and nice wheels!
It makes the picture complete when you have photo`s from the interior and the dash.
Enjoy your beauty!

Re: Wheel question in English
Even though the car is by no means historically original, it still is a real head-turner! NICE!
how does she handle with those big-ass tires on her?
In the old days the size was 155SR15 (also for the Sport), 195/65 is quite a bit wider...
track width has increased by a full 40 mm, you should be able to tell the difference

Re: Wheel question in English
Thanks for the positive comments. I've done it purely for the looks.
The new tires are slightly smaller so it should help acceleration. The new NGK plugs I put in tonight have made a better change though.
I have the new 155 Michelins, steel wheels, hubcaps and trim rings (sorry 5446gbv4) and will keep them in storage. I still have the original wheels and Goodyear G800 tires (who remembers those?) for my 1973 Volvo - just for car shows.
I wasn't expecting the handling to get better and I'm correct. Wide tires on suspension designed for narrow ones doesn't usually work well in practice. The wider footprint causes the car to follow the ridges on our (very) poor roads. We call it 'tram lining'. Fortunately, the steering is still light.
My Mini has the same problem but I like the look of the 12" on it too so I have to tolerate it. In fact, I just did some autocross with the Mini last week in Quebec and the overly wide tires never had a chance to warm up and grip.

http://youtu.be/6aZ3GeIyEy0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (the camera adds at least....10 NO!, 100kg !?!)
I used to do more events in the past and had a few special sets of tires for events.
I am so thrilled with the look of the 96 that I'm not worried about anything else. I enjoy even just looking at it....my wife may be getting jealous
