Motor slaat af tijdens opwarm period

Bericht door PK » wo 03 jan, 2007 11:57

Hallo,

Apologies for the English, my written Dutch is limited. I can read OK so repies in Dutch are fine.

My 1983 99 will suddenly stop running during the warm up period. I have not been brave enough to drive further to see if the problem continues when the engine is completely warmed up. The problem first started a few days ago when the car was warming up idling in the driveway. Suddenly the engine stopped and I could not restart it for a about 1/2 minute. This happend three times. Today I was planning to drive the car to visit family - 3 times in less than 10km the engine died. It would restart within 1/2 a minute but I decided to return home to be on the safe side. During the drive back home (engine warmed up), I had no problems.

The problem is not fuel as the engine stops instantly and when you try to restart you can smell the gasoline. My suspicion is ignition. The distributor cap, rotor, plug wires and spark plugs are new (less than 1000 km). The car has the 'Hall effect' electronic ignition. When I engage the starter to start the car it does not turn over smoothly almost like the timing is too far advanced.

Any thoughts? Is the electronic ignition a weak point on these cars?

Thanks and take care,
