9-5NG strut problem

Bericht door kielbasa » vr 02 jun, 2023 13:23

Hi NL saab forum,
Please excuse me for English language, but the Dutch is not my strong point :D
I came here as I'm struggling with finding a proper strut, maybe there's someone who could help me out.

Anyone knows if there's any GM (Opel/Buick?) replacement for this specific strut:
https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/s ... e/1067683/

It's a sport version, WITHOUT continuous damping. 2.8 XWD Saab 9-5NG, 2011, no Road Sense.
it seems to be rare, I'm trying to find one in central Europe but they're out of stock. No one wants to ship it from US.
I did find it in one shop, but it was terribly expensive. I also doubt that there wouldn't be any GM alternative as Saab's chassis is not so unique...
Furthermore, I recently found out that people use GM struts from Buick Regal with success, which are a good replacement of saab's 13312347 (sport WITH continuous damping)- Opel and Buick part nr 13328352. The problem is I need WITHOUT continuous damping...
Do You guys possibly have any suggestions?

thanks

Hi,

I have the same car; 2.8 XWD Aero and NO continuous damping. Same problem, can not find the correct struts. So I am following this thread ;-)

My thought... what would happen if you put on struts WITH continuous damping but not activated, what would be the default setting of that strut?

I had this idea, but I have no clue. If the strut will work as a normal one, or will not work at all...?
We would only have to cut the wires, or simply not plugging them in.

Anyways - these struts, but from Buick Regal, are way cheaper and verified as a good ones, so if this solution works, I'm going to try it out.
I also have another solution - just send mine over and have them regenerated. They say it works well too but the only problem is that once You take them out, the car is not usable so in either local service You'd have to block one service stand at least for a week...and they will charge You for that.
Of course, as long as You're not doing it in Your own garage...but I don't think I want to do it by myself tbh.

you can maybe try a strut from a 2.0 (TTiD)?

rutgerreinier, it's the same one I linked up in my first post.
This is exactly the one I'm looking for but they're discontinued. I found maybe two sites where they're available, but they were terribly expensive.

I meant more, that all 2011 Saab have the same Strut. so maybe you can try that Strut from 2010 2.0 Aero, it has a different oem number.

I think this could be the right one for the right side:

No, the R&D strut is not a HyperStrut, that is a MacPherson one.

yes, TTID has also hiperSTrut, but it depends on the trim level.
hiperStrut does not have the bottom bracket on the strut so like it was said before, the strut RoelandV posted is not the right one.

Yes, I found the used ones before but I hoped there'd be some brand new alternatives.

Brand new is available in HiPerStrut, with sports package and continous damping (quite affordable). That might be an option altough you haven't got the continuous damping option.

This.
But what would be the "not activated setting"? Hard or soft?

Looks like there are no alternatives, just get refurbished the ones we already have.
If someone can confirm that adaptive damping would work even with the wires unplugged, it's always an option, but we still have to pay more for something that we wouldn't be using anyway ;)

I know that when the system shuts off due to a fault the dampers go into sports mode, don't know what happens when they aren't plugged in.

I'd say the sport mode is the stock mode for them and once You plug them in, they gain those other 'adaptive functions'.
But that's just my guess.
