Ever had the desire to drive a unique automobile? Let's face it, everybody likes to be different, do unusal things or drive a special car. It is hard to stick out in this era of mass production.
Even if you drive a $80,000 dollar vehicle, you are bound to run into another one just like yours. Let me introduce to you the rare opportunity to own a one-off vehicle, a Saab 9000 Coupe (2 door) Concept Car. ASC and Saab together went to great detail in creating this one of a kind vehicle.
The donor vehicle was a 1989 Saab 9000 CD Turbo 5-speed. Literally hundreds of engineering hours went into the preparation and execution of this vehicle. Not to go too much into the technical details: the following describes what had to happen to go from a 4 door to a 2 door 9000. Accomplishing the actual body redesign required relocation of the "B"-pillars, fabrication of new front doors, interior trim panels, new side window glass, new side moldings and "C"-pillar trim details.
In the second phase ASC and Saab focused on giving the car a more aggresive look and ride. The car was lowered by 2 inches, fitted with 16" ROH wheels and P225/50 tires. A front air dam with integral driving lights, lower body appliques, a rear valance panel with integral exhuast tip and rear decklid spoiler were all custom made.
Finally, this concept car was painted Black Cherry. The result is mesmerizing to say the least.
Saab and ASC were so pleased they shipped the vehicle all over the world to feature at main auto shows (ie Geneva, Detroit, Chicago and Los Angeles).
Although the public and press were all in favor, Saab opted against bring the car into production. This means that this Saab 9000 Coupe Concept Car truly is a one of a kind piece of automotive history.
Being an ASC employee at the time, I had the opportunity to purchase this car in 1995. This makes me the first "private" owner. Today you have the chance to own this professionally made concept car for just a fraction of the cost spend in creating it.
